School of Foreign Languages

Founded in 1974, School of Foreign Languages is one of the six oldest schools of Liaocheng University with diverse programs at different levels, including postgraduate programs,international cooperation programs and various continued learning programs.The school houses four undergraduate majors (English, Japanese with a special program cooperated with business entities, Korean, and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) and five master degree programs (English Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Curriculum and Teaching Methodology, English Teaching, and MTI). In 2012, English Language and Literature was listed among the first group of priority majors to cultivate special professionals in Shandong Province.

The School of Foreign Languages has a faculty of 75 people, 10 professors, 18 associate professors, 29 of whom with doctorate degrees or doctorate candidates. There are two research centers,namely Comparative Research Center of Foreign Languages and Cultures, and Elementary Foreign Language Education and Teaching Research Center.

In the past five years, the faculties hosted 3 National Social Science Fund Projects, 6 Humanities and Social Sciences Fund Projects of Ministry of Education, 12 Provincial Social Science Fund projects and 6 Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences projects of Education Department, published more than 20 academic books, over 200 articles in academic journals, and won 2 provincial awards for outstanding scientific research and 2 second-place provincial prizes for excellent teaching achievements.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Shandong Department of Education, the school organized 1 state-sponsored primary school English teachers’ training program and 1 provincial government-sponsored primary and middle school teachers’ training program. Attaching great importance to the cooperation with schools in U.S.A, U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan and Korea, it has employed more than 40 foreign teachers and sent over 40 teachers and 200 students abroad to study or research in famous universities.

  School of Foreign Languages pays high attention to the complementation of academic study and extracurricular activities and actively creates harmonious environment for students to learn foreign languages. A series of foreign language learning activities with distinctive features are formed: Five Thoughts Education, Upgrade Education, Classics Reading, Bird-Viewing of the World, Shakespeare Drama Contest, and Foreign Language Professional Skills Competition etc.
